The Florida Museum of Photographic Art stands as a respected photography museum located on the scenic Riverwalk here in Tampa, Florida. The museum began in 2001 by Cynthia Flowers, Charles J. Levin, and Vincent Sorrentino as the Tampa Gallery of Photographic Arts and their first exhibition “Masters of Black and White” was debuted. In the summer of 2006, the museum was renamed the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts and relocated to downtown Tampa. The museum found its current location in the Waterfront Arts District in Rivergate Plaza’s Cube, a space that has been recognized as one of the most impressive interior spaces on the west coast of Florida. Surrounded by windows, the cube is a unique place to enjoy unmatched photography. FMoPA has continually changing exhibitions, so you can always expect something new from them throughout the year. The incredible permanent collection is complimented by the unique traveling exhibitions that they host. Exhibitions regularly include renowned international photographers and even highlight emerging photographers as well. There are a multitude of shows and competitions that allow budding artists to display their talent, including the "Forever Young" exhibition, the International Photo Competition, and the “Member’s Show.” The museum hosts many classes each month that are run and taught by professional photographers. They include, but are not limited to: Photography 101, Photoshop for Beginners, Wedding photography and more. Additionally, portfolio review classes are available for professionals to advise emerging photographers and help get their name out and ensure their success.
